Facilities Services at the University of Idaho offers multiple services related to enhancing, maintaining and caring for the university.  For a complete service guide click here.  FMO is divided into several categories:  Administrative Services, Building Trades, Landscape & Exterior Services, & Building Services

Administrative Services  

Payroll:  The payroll section of the Fiscal Office reviews, approves and processes labor and material charges for work orders including the processing of irregular help payroll and sick and annual leave.  If questions arise regarding payroll employees should call 885-5721 or 885-2102.

 

Work Management and Information:  The work order center provides a process for requesting work to be performed by Facilities Maintenance & Operations.  All work that is requested should be directed through our main operator at 885-6246.  The requestor is responsible for providing all pertinent information for the request.  Failure to provide all required information may result in delayed processing of the work request.  As work orders are issued information is available through the FAMIS work order system, which is maintained by the FAMIS Administrator and Work Order Center, which can be reached at 885-2880 or 885-2941. 
 

Financial: The financial branch of the Fiscal Office is responsible for maintaining and monitoring department budgets; providing financial management information and processing invoices for payments.  Inquiries involving financial transactions should be directed to 885-2101 or 885-5990.

Information Technology

: The Information Technology department manages the local area network.  In addition to this function, support is provided to network users in the operation and use of the network and PC computer equipment, recommendations for software and hardware and troubleshooting, evaluating and testing network and PC software and hardware.  IT department can be reached at 885-7349.

Building Trades

The Building Trades group is comprised of approximately 40 people with diverse skills who take pride in providing facilities services which focus on the maintenance, repair, service and operations requirements of campus buildings and infrastructure. Trades shops personnel are often working behind the scenes to test and maintain life safety systems, as well as critical support equipment serving research and educational needs.  Our staff is committed to ensuring the functional working condition of systems and equipment, and to maintain an attractive appearance of campus buildings. 

In addition to the maintenance and care of campus buildings and infrastructure, as schedule allows, Building Trades provides a variety of support services and capabilities, including custom design, fabrication and installation of cabinetry and casework, minor room remodeling, building systems additions and alterations to support new equipment and special needs, custom metal fabrications for research and teaching projects, hazardous materials abatement, custom finishes for furnishings and program needs, card access locking systems and equipment, specialized security systems and CCTV design and installation.

The trades shops consist of the Electric Shop, HVAC/Refrigeration Shop, Interiors Shop, Machine Shop, and Plumbing Shop. Workplace safety, critical systems reliability, energy conservation, preventive and predictive maintenance, and deferred maintenance documentation are active programs within the building trades group.

Landscape & Exterior Services

The campus landscape is one of the first and last views students, their parents, staff, faculty, and visitors encounter on a visit to our university. This inviting green space is the common bond that ties all other university features together. Thus, it is extremely important that Landscape & Exterior Services personnel perform their duties well, with the knowledge that everyone who enters the campus will, in large part and for years to come, associate the quality of the university with their perception of the campus landscape. Telephone:  885-6246, Campus Zip:  2281.  Landscape & Exterior Services at UI is as varied as most other maintenance organizations, and is made up of the following groups:

Within the Landscape division, the daily/seasonal maintenance and care tasks for the green space and walk areas of campus, falls to our area landscape technicians, who skillfully perform their duties so that our campus landscape is safe and enjoyable for everyone to use. These individuals are supported by a group of specialists whose expertise provides for the continued development and maintenance of our campus irrigation systems, grounds equipment, landscape improvement projects, turf and athletic care, flower production, and tree and shrub care.  For questions call 885-6734.

Other Landscape Items of Interest
In 2003 a President's Residence Plant Inventory was completed to show the variety of fauna found in even a small are of the campus landscape.
In 2009 a Campus Naturlization Map was prepared to indicate what areas of the campus landscape have been naturlized to reduce maintenance, increase safety, and promote sustainability.

The personnel of the Building Exteriors division are responsible for the hardscape of campus. Their capabilities allow them to monitor, clean, maintain, and repair our campus streets and parking lots, and clear snow from them during the winter. They also work with general metals, masonry, concrete, and roofing materials for the upkeep of our buildings and sidewalks. Plus they accomplish many specialty projects which greatly enhance and improve the campus overall.  For questions call 885-5946.

The Recycling/Surplus/Solid Waste division has the responsibility of managing the Recycling, Campus Surplus, and Solid Waste programs of the university. The recycling group makes 500 stops each week collecting recyclables from offices, dormitories, and other campus areas.  RSSW recycles over 240 tons/year and processes over 260 tons of solid waste each year.  A total of 1500 tons of solid waste is removed yearly from campus.  Surplus personnel collect, sell, and dispose of over 5000 items per year, which departments no longer have need of.  This divisions continued efforts in providing cost effective service while using new methods and opportunities to reduce our waste stream positively impacts everyone at UI.  For questions call 885-2091.

The Garage/Motor Pool/LES Shops division provides a variety of services for our campus customers.  Motor Pool provides reliable, low cost vehicle rentals for those personnel going on business or field trips off the UI campus. The Garage provides services for UI department vehicles that include a preventative maintenance program, tire sales and installation, safety inspections, and routine maintenance & repair work. The Garage continues to implement better service applications for the convenience of our customers and act as liaison in arranging for extreme vehicle repairs requiring outside services. LES Shops provides repair and maintenance services for all Facilities small and large engine equipment. They are also involved in project work and upgrades concerning this equipment.  For questions call 885-7104.

Campus Storage allows UI departments the chance to rent lower cost storage space on campus at the new Campus Mini Storage Building.  Both short term and long term space rental is available for our customers needs.  For questions call 885-6633.

Campus Mail & Receiving:  The UI Campus Mail Service strives to provide courteous, cost effective, high quality mail service to our customers.  Mail services processes incoming and outgoing domestic and international mail distributed through the United States Postal Service mail for distribution and interdepartmental mail for campus-wide distribution.  Campus Mail Services is also responsible for interpreting and enforcing U.S. Postal regulations and providing postal information to campus personnel.  Campus Mail Services is a tax-supported service exclusively for official business.  Long established University policy prohibits its use for private purposes.  Private Use includes, but is not restricted to, sending such materials as chain letters, political notices, advertisements and all other materials not related to the conduct of University business. Shop Stores:  The University of Idaho, through the Facilities Maintenance & Operation (FMO) department, purchases materials and equipment for use in the construction of capital construction projects.  Shop Stores makes these purchases upon receipt of a request from Facilities staff responsible for managing the construction project.

Building Services
