Question: Are you replacing one end wall or both?
Answer: The intent of the greater project is to replace both end walls. However, the University is implementing the project in a phased manner given the constraints of the current fiscal environment. At this time, we have funding sufficient for the west end wall replacement as a part of the scope of this first phase of effort. It is the intent of the University to identify funds that will allow replacement of the east end wall in a future phase.
Question: Will the Dome be open after May 16 for recreational use?
Answer: It is our intent to open up the facility for jogging on the Dome Floor and along the Concourses once the construction managers give us the “all clear” from any concerns regarding demolition and air quality issues. That said there are a number of caveats:
|
1.
|
There will be a designated construction zone that will be off-limits at all times during the project. This area will be clearly marked. |
|
2.
|
Periodically construction exigencies will require us to close down areas in and around the Kibbie Dome. All due effort will be made to notify users well in advance. |
|
3.
|
The entire Dome area will be closed from June 12th through the 16th for a special event. |
Question: Will the project be completed before the first football game?
Answer: No. Much of the west wall replacement component of the project will be completed. We do expect some scaffolding to be in place inside the Dome as the project wraps up the north and south ends of the wall replacement. This will affect sections #1 and #12. Once the wall replacement project nears completion, the focus will shift to the construction of the west wall exits. This will last through the entire football season.
Question: How many seats will be added or removed as part of the Life Safety Upgrades project?
Answer: None. Early in the design phase of the project, it was thought that widening of the stair aisles might be necessary to meet exiting width requirements. However, through the implementation of a smoke evacuation system, timed-egress fire modeling analysis, additional exit capacity from the field level, fire alarm upgrades, and the addition of handrails to the seating aisles; it has been determined that widening of the stair aisles will not be necessary.
The Life Safety Upgrades Project does not provide for the addition of any seats. Potential options for adding and/or reconfiguring seating may be explored as part of a separate project supported through private giving.
